A decade ago, Tim Tow of Applied OLAP and I were both board members for ODTUG. Back then, Applied OLAP’s spreadsheet management solution, Dodeca, was bringing incredible value to Fortune 500 companies by delivering an integrated experience between an Excel frontend and Essbase environments. Since my expertise was (and still is) in Oracle EBS and Oracle Forms, not Essbase, our business interests didn’t intersect. Over the years, we supported each other’s contributions to the Oracle community, and I admired Tim’s business achievements from afar.
Magic can happen in the Oracle community. Not only do conferences give us an opportunity to network, learn, and hang out with the best of the best that the Oracle community has to offer, they are also a breeding ground for collaboration and partnership.
Tim and I reconnected at conferences year-after-year and worked closely on the ODTUG board to benefit the community, but over the years, our professional trajectories ran parallel. Then, fast forward to today, and – BAM – an opportunity for collaboration is born: AuraPlayer and Applied OLAP have joined forces to deliver an integrated solution for Dodeca and AuraPlayer’s unique Oracle EBS/Oracle Forms generated APIs. This new plug-in lets customers work with complex EBS/Forms business data through Dodeca’s intuitive spreadsheet interface and create customized reports without risk to the production environment.
In today’s accelerating market, enterprises will increasingly rely on analytics and reporting to stay competitive. With this joint solution, enterprises using Oracle EBS/Forms for their mission-critical operations can leverage Essbase’s powerful analytic, reporting, and collaboration capabilities using real-time data via automated spreadsheets.
The plug-in solution is easy to configure and doesn’t require custom code. AuraPlayer’s AI process capture toolbar automatically generates customized REST APIs for Oracle EBS/Forms workflows, which are then seamlessly called from Dodeca’s platform to provide instant access to data for analysis, reporting, and forecasting.
Enterprises affected by the phasing out of Oracle Reports will find that the solution provides an easy and stable alternative. Instead of pouring resources into onboarding a new reporting solution, they can leverage end user knowledge of Excel to meet all their reporting needs. Any employee who is familiar with Excel can easily customize and master it.
Although still in development, the next phase of the joint solution will enable roundtrip synchronization between a spreadsheet and the Oracle EBS/Forms environment. Users will be able to update the EBS/Forms environment from the spreadsheet in accordance with the backend system’s permissions, personalizations, and customizations.
