It’s Time… Your Oracle Forms Digital Transformation Begins Now

Hi all, I’m Jessica – the new Marketing Manager at AuraPlayer.

The first thing I noticed when I came on board was how much incredible content they had here gathering dust on the shelves. I’m excited to begin a weekly content share with this community, keeping you informed and up to date on all the interesting gems hidden away in AuraPlayer’s content catalogue. We’ll start with modernization, mobility, RPA, chat and all the other next generation solutions, while still focusing on our vision to bring all of your legacy technologies into the modern era. Be sure to watch this space for my weekly “Jessica’s Jems” tech updates.

Let’s start with the basics. Oracle Forms has been around for over 20 years and is the mainstay of many enterprise applications. Fortune 500’s readily rely on these applications to run their day to day business.

Oracle’s renewed commitment to supporting Forms into the future is also well known in the industry. It is a relief for many enterprise organizations that rely on Oracle Forms. However, now all enterprises are wondering what their next step should be: how to move the application into the digital world? Today it’s not enough for your application to be “supported” it needs to provide an enriched user experience for your employees, customers and partners.

So let’s start with the basics – Mobility. There are several ways you can create mobile applications out of your Forms applications, and here in my first blog-post I wanted to share with you two main approaches:

  • Redevelopment of the Forms system
  • Extending the existing Forms system to mobile UIs

First, there’s what we call the “extreme approach” – if you have no limit on your budget and project timeline, you can take your resources, analyse the form and reverse engineer the code into DB elements. This approach completely replaces the application and therefore requires a significant effort – from analyzing the existing business logic to then redeveloping your existing Forms applications and finally performing significant QA. Again, if you have the budget to spare, go for it. This will detach you from the legacy application and put you fully in the next generation.

Then again, there is the “strategic approach”. This can be achieved by extending your existing Forms to REST services so you get the same mobile flows without the need to change anything in your Forms applications. With this option you do not need to recode or reverse engineer anything. This option can help you cut the line on the way to mobility and have you running Forms on mobile devices in a matter of days! Think it’s too good to be true? Feel free to schedule a live demo or free trial with our team to see it first hand.

To get an in-depth understanding of all your options feel free to download our free whitepaper Strategies for Migration of Oracle Forms / EBS.

Moving on, if I were you, an active Oracle Forms user, I would definitely check out the other technical articles on our blog. Here’s one gem that I found that was posted this month about Oracle Forms Advanced Debugging, of course this is for deep techies, but there’s plenty more business Forms articles there as well.

Don’t forget to stay tuned for my weekly tech updates, and feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or comments.
