Modernizing Legacy Oracle Forms in the Time of COVID-19
Welcome back to another week of “Jessica’s Jems”. This week we’ll be talking about all things innovation, modernization of Legacy Oracle applications, and how COVID-19 has impacted all of this. It’s been a while since we looked at the impact of COVID-19 and I don’t think back in March any of us could have imagined that we would still be in the midst of this pandemic. However, with the end of summer approaching, I thought it would be a good time to check in…
How has COVID-19 Affected the Modernization of Legacy Oracle Forms?
Over the past few months, during these hard times worldwide, the AuraPlayer team has been busy at work with their customers to hit the challenges head-on. With COVID-19 constraints, many organizations suddenly realized that their employees were reliant on their Legacy Oracle Forms and EBS systems that are unable to run offsite. Meaning, they weren’t able to access their back-end HR, Supply chain, and financial systems from mobile devices in the field.
This lack of mobility was becoming increasingly dangerous as many organizations had business processes requiring employees to physically check-in at their headquarters for various reasons. This meant many people together in a small, closed space – no doubt a health and safety risk for all.
Organizations were in urgent need of a speedy, cost-effective solution to modernize their Legacy Oracle forms. You already heard all about the major U.S. Transit Authority, serving more than 15 million customers that teamed up with AuraPlayer in 2020 as COVID-19 struck and to find a solution to modernize their existing Legacy Oracle Forms. International Hospital Based in Pakistan
But now I wanted to highlight our latest success. An International Hospital based in Pakistan partnered with AuraPlayer to help create a mobile app for their staff and patients. Prior to modernization, the process worked as follows: doctors would check the patients and then record the prescribed medications or results in the desktop application.
Nurses would then have to check the desktop application to see what medications were needed for which patients and manually transfer the information to the patient chart. After administering the medication or checking patient vitals, the nurses would then have to go back to the desktop application and update the information. This process was time-consuming, error-prone, and inefficient for both doctors and nurses.
The hospital reached out to use AuraPlayer’s patented technology and modernize their Legacy Oracle forms by creating a customized mobile app for the staff that could be accessed on tablets or mobiles, speeding up patient rounds, improving data input, accuracy, and efficiency. The mobile app interacts directly with the desktop Legacy application, allowing nurses to access all the relevant information and automatically sync all the data to the Legacy application.
The severity of the pandemic only made the need for mobility even more critical, as the scale of patients requiring assistance during COVID-19 increased rapidly. Not only did the influx of patients grow, but many patients decided that they would rather receive medical care at home while other non-critical patients were sent home early, to free up beds for COVID-19 cases. This meant that nurses needed to check in on patients at their homes with easy, on-the-go access to the patient information.
With the new patient vitals mobile app, they were no longer reliant on the on-site hospital computer and were able to be mobile, agile, and flexible. If you’re interested in learning more, check out our whitepaper on “The Future of Oracle Forms”.
The Impact
These customer stories show the impact COVID-19 had on many organizations, but perhaps this was the push they needed to go mobile and modernize their Oracle Legacy Forms? The IT challenges presented in the face of COVID-19, lead to a cost-effective, risk-free, quick solution. One that transformed the customer back-office system, making it available on mobile and web, without migration or redevelopment needed. A sustainable approach, maximizing ROI.
