Now that iOS7 has a cool new look and feel, you’re probably looking at the old ADF Mobile projects in Jdeveloper created in previous versions and thinking it looks a little dated; not as ‘fresh’ in comparison to iOS7. So we felt this week that it was time for you all to do an update. In this post, I’ll explain how you can easily upgrade your ADF Mobile application skin to the fresh new mobileAlta skin to match the iOS7 style.
To begin …
1. First, you must update to the new ADF Mobile patch, version 11.2.1.4.39.64.62:
In order to use the new ADF Mobile release you must install xcode 5 on your Mac, install it from the AppStore, just be aware that the installation requires a restart your Mac. Note, that you do not have to upgrade to Mavericks OS, you can remain on Mountain Lion for the mean time (which I have). We are not ones for drastic change 🙂
Once you have installed xcode 5.02, you must update ADF Mobile to the new release. This is pretty simple just go to Help->Check For Updates->Official Oracle Extension and Updates, and select ADF Mobile. It should have version number 11.1.2.4.39.64.62.
After all the updates and restarts, are done, and you open Jdeveloper, you will have to set the iOS simulator SDK directory. You will now set it to /iPhoneSimulator7.0.sdk
2. Once the patch is in place you are all set. In your existing project, go to Application Resources > Description > ADF META-INF > adfmf-config.xml. There, you’ll replace the skin-family from mobileFusionFx to mobileAlta.
3. Now that you’ve upgraded your skin, you’ll notice a change in color schemes. Now be sure to go through your application to see if you need to make any adjustments in font or object colors. We had a few places where we ended up with white text on a white background so don’t say we didn’t warn you. Below you’ll see an example of our old system vs. the new skins as seen from an iPad.
Voila! There you have it. Now you have a fresh looking skin for you application and it only took a couple clicks!
