During a recent phone call, a customer asked if we had an upcoming company meeting—he wanted to make sure I publicly recognized our CTO, Yossi Nakash, for delivering exceptional support. The customer had experienced an issue with their inventory management application, and Yossi responded to their service ticket promptly—despite it arriving late in the evening—to ensure they could complete their physical inventory count without delay.
While we could certainly spend more time celebrating Yossi’s dedication (and rightly so), that’s not my main point.
What struck me most was how far this customer has come in such a short time. Just a few months ago, they didn’t even have a mobile application. Before we launched their custom EBS mobile app for physical inventory counting, their entire process was manual—clipboard checklists and Excel spreadsheets. Fast forward a few months, and that mobile app has become mission-critical to their operations.
When we first engaged with this major automotive manufacturer, we started by analyzing their systems to understand how things really worked—and where modernization could have the greatest impact. It didn’t take long to see that their inventory “system” was built around handwritten logs, printed paperwork, and a patchwork of Excel files—nearly a dozen of which had to be merged overnight to track inventory.
What’s even more surprising is that they’re not alone. We’ve since learned that many large manufacturers using Oracle Supply Chain Applications (MSCA) still rely on manual tools—clipboards, spreadsheets, and workarounds—for essential operations.
That’s why it’s especially rewarding to watch these organizations begin their digital transformation journey with us. As they swap out outdated tools for sleek, touchscreen EBS apps with barcode scanning and real-time integration, it’s not just a tech upgrade—it’s a total shift in how they work.
In the fast-moving world of enterprise supply chain management, agility and user experience are no longer just “nice-to-haves”; they’re business imperatives. Yet, many companies still rely on the ancient Oracle Mobile Supply Chain Applications (MSCA), a product that served warehouses, manufacturing plants, and inventory teams reliably for decades. While MSCA once represented cutting-edge mobile technology for Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) users, it’s clear that the solution is showing its age—and with Oracle no longer investing in new functionality or UX enhancements, the gap between MSCA and modern supply chain mobility needs is widening.
MSCA was designed at a time when warehouse operators were equipped with clunky handheld devices and green-screen interfaces. The goal was simple: bring mobile capabilities to Oracle Inventory, WMS, and manufacturing applications. For years, it delivered—allowing workers to perform receiving, picking, and inventory transactions on-the-go.
But the supply chain world of 20 years ago is not the supply chain world of today. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated changes in supply chain dynamics; from increased e-commerce volumes, to the need for greater operational flexibility and agility in supply chain systems, to rapid responses to fluctuating prices.
Today, supply chain management teams require mobile solutions that are:
- Intuitive and user-friendly
- Responsive across any device—from rugged handhelds to smartphones
- Easily configurable without heavy customizations
- Built for real-time data access and integration with IoT, AI, and cloud platforms
Next-gen functionality and user experience for EBS: MSCA, with its aging Java-based architecture and rigid functionality, simply wasn’t built for this new era.

Oracle’s own roadmap makes the direction clear—the future of Oracle supply chain technology is in the Cloud SCM suite and Fusion Applications, not by extending the existing EBS. Meanwhile, MSCA has quietly moved into sustaining support, with no new features or updates planned. That means no new capabilities, no UX redesigns, and limited compatibility with the latest mobile devices and operating systems.
While sustaining support ensures the product remains technically supported, it leaves customers with the burden of navigating an increasingly outdated platform—one that doesn’t align with the digital transformation goals many companies have set for their supply chains.
The good news is that manufacturers CAN break free from legacy mobile limitations without abandoning Oracle EBS altogether. Third-party mobile solutions that layer a modern user experience on top of Oracle EBS—give companies the power of real-time, responsive mobile apps without requiring a wholesale migration to Oracle Cloud.
These next-generation solutions offer:
- Modern web-based UX with touchscreen-friendly interfaces
- Native mobile apps for iOS, Android, and rugged devices
- Offline capabilities for remote warehouse locations
- Easy configurability without custom code
- Seamless integration with Oracle EBS via APIs
For organizations not yet ready to make the leap to Oracle Cloud, these solutions offer a bridge—delivering the agility and UX of cloud applications while preserving their investment in Oracle EBS.
MSCA played a critical role in extending Oracle EBS into the mobile world, but its time has come. As supply chains become more dynamic, the user experience more critical, and the pace of innovation faster than ever, businesses need mobile solutions that can keep up. Whether through Oracle Cloud or modern third-party apps, the path forward is clear: it’s time to move beyond legacy mobile systems and embrace the next generation of supply chain mobility.
The question isn’t whether MSCA is becoming obsolete — it’s what your business is prepared to do about it.
