UKOUG TechFest in Nutshell
Last week I embarked on a journey of many firsts. It was my first time traveling from Northern England to Southern England by train, it was my first time celebrating my birthday in Brighton, and it was my first Oracle conference. A journey with many firsts welcomes challenges, learning opportunities and successes.
The Challenges
After the long train journey, I decided to stretch my legs and walk to the hotel. As it was already dark I was worried I may have trouble finding it, thanks to UKOUG and their post I arrived safe and sound.
I wanted to take a photo of the beautiful sunset but then realized that the sun sets at 3:40 PM and I was in a session. But, thanks to Richard Foote, I was able to see the sunset on Twitter.
The Learning Opportunities
UKOUG Techfest was an event full of innovative and informative sessions.
My first session was by David Callaghan from Hermes. He presented a customer success story about Holly (Herme’s digital assistant) and explained what “life with Holly” means, diving into the branding and designing that helped integrate Holly with the team. I was impressed at the level of Q&A that went into perfecting the bot to acquire optimal customer satisfaction. Hermes is a great example of how companies can fully integrate their bot at the company and customer level.
You know you’ve hit a hot topic when you walk into with session with 5 minutes to spare and there aren’t any seats! Oracle Forms Project Manager, Michael Ferrante wowed the crowd with the new feature in the Oracle Cloud MarketPlace that enables you to take your Oracle Forms to the cloud in under 15 minutes!
The Successes
After working at AuraPlayer for two years, it was an honor to see our CEO, Mia Urman, presenting. This year Mia presented two sessions covering Oracle VBCS and The Future of Oracle Forms.
Mia’s first session was a full house! Developers, customers, and students attended to hear tips, tricks and insights on Oracle’s Visual Builder Cloud Service and how it can be easily leveraged to reface Oracle Forms applications and bring them into the next generation. Mia’s second session demonstrated that Oracle Forms is not only alive and well, but it is now a full-fledged member of Oracle’s cloud ecosystem. Mia helped to make the first steps to digital transformation easier by providing a “moving forward” checklist with ways to extend Oracle to the cloud.
First experiences can be many things, and I am grateful that my first Oracle event was at UKOUG’s #Techfest19. The staff, the speakers, the sessions, the location, and most of all the new connections that I made have really set the bar high for my next Oracle event. I look forward to attending more Oracle events and am eagerly awaiting my next trip to Brighton 😉. Wishing everyone a joyful holiday season! Cheers to 2020!
Oh, and my birthday? It was celebrated in fashion. Until next time, this is Elizabeth signing off.
