Words of Wisdom with Oracle ACE’s: Opal Alapat

As we approach the end of summer and have passed the midpoint of 2020, we thought it would be a good time for some reflection and to renew the connection with our community’s leading industry experts. As we missed seeing them at the many Oracle conferences this year, we’ve asked them to share their advice, recommendations and reflections on how to stay up to date and connected bearing in mind the current COVID-19 challenges. Stay tuned over the next few weeks and watch this space to hear from some of your favourite Oracle ACE’s..

Jumping straight in with our first expert, she has collaborated with AuraPlayer on many successful projects and is an awesome professional who we love working with. A rockstar woman in technology and one of the few Oracle ACE Director women (along with our CEO, Mia Urman). Without further ado, to share her tech tips with us: Opal Alapat, Practice Director from interRel Consulting.

Q: In brief, what do you do from 9-5pm?

OA: Lol. That is a good question! I wear many hats. I manage people, manage my practice, work on sales deals, train customers, help customers assess their personal journey to the Cloud, work on internal initiatives, manage our EPM Cloud environments, and more!

Q: What is the most exciting thing happening in your field right now?

OA: The advancement of AI into Oracle EPM Cloud technologies. It’s already started, and I can’t wait to see more features over the next 2 years!

Q: What advice would you give customers ?

OA: If you’re an Oracle EPM on-prem customer deciding next steps, it’s very important to do your research. The platform landscape has vastly changed in just one short year. Research what’s available today, the pros and cons of each and how they impact both your solutions and end users, licensing costs, end of life support for supporting and solution software, and which direction each platform is going. If you’re already on EPM Cloud, don’t forget about change and change management! Change management is a process and not a destination. Successful user adoption begins here!

Q: What are the top 3 resources you use to do your job and succeed (oracle blog? LinkedIn? YouTube channel?)

OA: As a developer, Cloud Customer Connect (website), Oracle EPM Cloud monthly product updates (website), and the wonderful Oracle Product Management team (resources)!

As always, insightful, inspiring and tangible! Thanks Opal.
