Challenge
Worthington Industries, one of North America’s leading steel processors has processed more than 8 million tons of steel, and provides to companies from more than 70 countries. With such a vast operation, the shipping process is the heart of their business and must run smoothly and efficiently. In an effort to increase productivity, accuracy and speed of their supply chain, Worthington looked to streamline the process via handheld mobile devices in the warehouses. They wanted a solution that provided mobility, one that wasn’t costly, time-consuming or error-prone.
Worthington relayed on a desktop version of Oracle’s EBS for their Ship Confirm process. Previously, their shipping process was as follows: upon the arrival to the warehouse, material was brought from the storage unit to the trucking dock. Next, material tags were ripped off and brought back to the shipping office to be scanned and entered into the desktop inventory system. After validation, the shipper returned to the dock to manually verify the material. Following the verification, the shipper would travel back and forth from the dock to the office to update and provide proper documentation for both the trucker and the office. This process was inefficient, prone to human error, and too much unnecessary time and energy was experienced going back and forth between the dock and the back-office.
Solution
Worthington was able to modernize their Oracle EBS system without risk or redevelopment by extending their existing system to mobile. Worthington improved their overall shipping experience by leveraging a patented solution called, AuraPlayer.
The AuraPlayer solution allows developers to wrap their existing back-office applications to mobile that can plug into any user interface or device, without changing a line of code in the Oracle system. The new application now allows Worthington to perform multiple Oracle functions from one simple mobile app.

Results
Worthington enjoyed gains both in terms of worker performance and the accuracy of shipping reports.

shorter. The project was so successful they have already begun to mobilize other business processes
such as their Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system and the shipping spotlight.
